Meet Ernie Els’s daughter Samantha

Samantha Els – the daughter of Ernie Els – is following in her famous father’s footsteps, although in an entirely different sport. The bubbly blonde made her debut for the Springboks women’s team on Tuesday, 19 September.

The South African team beat their US opponents, San Clemente Rhino, 22-17, at a game that took place in False Bay, Western Cape.Samantha may look like her father, Ernie Els, but her sporting tastes are quite different.


 

Responding to their comparison, she shared on her Instagram Stories: “Same, same but different.”

Samantha started playing international rugby for the USA last year.

“This was the sport and the family I had been waiting for,” she shared in an Instagram post.She’s based in the US.

Samantha plays for the New York Rugby Club in the position of lock. However, home is Herold’s Bay in the Western Cape.

She’s a Bachelor of Science graduate.

Samantha graduated from Stanford University in the US. While there, she was the co-captain of the university’s women’s rugby team.

She won an award for her advocacy for autism.

Samantha’s younger brother Ben – Ernie Els’s only son – has autism. She is also the founding member of the Els for Austis Foundation, launched in 2014.She caddied for her famous father, Ernie Els at several major tournaments.

This included the Masters Par and the Presidents Cup.

RIP: Condolences pour in for popular Amapiano promoter, Smasho Papino

Condolences have been pouring in for the late Smasho Papino, who died over the weekend. Smasho was a well-respected event organizer, artist manager, and booking agent.


 

 

 

 
Throughout his short-lived career, Smasho worked with the likes of Chicco, Yumbs, Riky Rick, and Mr. JazziQ. He was particularly a popular figure in the amapiano scene.Vocalist, who was fresh off his landmark one-man show in Pretoria on Saturday, took to his Instagram Stories to share his condolences. “Why do the good die young man… King of the West! Always had such a bright energy man. You’ll be missed ”

Uncle Waffles also took to her Instagram Stories and posted, “Rest Well bhuti, rest well”.

One of Waffles’ managers, Kai In The Cut, also paid homage to Smasho, whom he described as a close friend: “I love you my brother, this hurts. I’m going to miss you Smasho.”He also shared some videos of them on his Stories before adding a lengthy tribute where he spoke on the impact Smasho had on his life and career.

“The most comforting energy,” he shared. “I spent a good portion of the lockdown period with Smasho. He kept me so motivated and excited about life’s possibilities.”

Kai’s social media blog page, Kreative Korner, also paid homage to the late event organizer in a post that’s been widely shared on Instagram. “Rest in peace to a massive contributor to the Kulture at large @smasho_papino, promoter, artists manager, friend & brother to many in the industry.“His love and passion for creating opportunities for people and pushing culture at large will live on forever and our heart goes out to all his friends & family affected by his passing.”

Rapper and amapiano star Phantom Steeze commented, “RIP to the king”.Amapiano newcomer Yumbs also added, “King of the west. Long live.”

Nobantu Vilakazi, George Avakian, Nanette, Ch’cco, and Uncle Vinny also commented and paid homage to Smasho.

Sizokuthola host Xolani Khumalo spends a night in jail

Xolani Khumalo who is well known for raiding drug-infested areas in his much-loved TV show, Sizokuthola, appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 19 September.

He was charged with the murder of a suspected drug dealer.

Xolani handed himself over at the Katlehong North Police Station on Tuesday, 19 September, where he was officially charged with the murder of Robert Varrie, who died during the recording of the Sizokuthola TV program in July.Robert was allegedly assaulted on Wednesday, 19 July at Phadima Section in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.


 

 

 

He was later dropped off at the Thelle Mogoerane regional hospital in Vosloorus by the crew.State prosecutor Pheello Vilakazi said the deceased was strangled and died in hospital.

However, Xolani will spend a night at Ramokonopi Police Station after his family couldn’t pay the bail because the cash wall office was closed.Xolani’s lawyer, Advocate Prince Mafu from Mawandla Law Chamber instructed by Van Zyl Johnson Attorneys read an affidavit stating that their client was a first-time offender.

Mafu said Xolani intended not to plead guilty to the murder case he’s facing.Magistrate Singh Ashin gave Xolani bail instructions that he must not contact the witnesses and he must report to Midrand Police Station once a week. Xolani was also informed to hand over his passport to the investigation officer.

She said Robert only had a few drugs in his possession and gave them to the crew, but they demanded more.

She alleged that her boyfriend was assaulted even after he told them he only had a few drugs and was later taken to hospital by the crew.

The Xolani Khumalo Foundation spokesperson, Kgodiso Komane, said they are happy with the support from the community.

The court was full to capacity and some people had to sit outside.

“Xolani is a person but represents a warrior and afighter. We all came in support to say hands off Xolani because of the job he is doing in the communities,” said Komane.
