Drama as Muvhango & 7de Laan actor Sekoati Tsubane banned from Zoleka Mandela’s funeral – Here’s why

Late South African writer and activist, Zoleka Mandela banned Muvhango and 7de Laan star Sekoati Tsubane from her funeral, which took place on Friday, 29 September.TshisaLIVE reported in June 2011 that the actor Sekoati Tsubane and the late activist Zoleka Mandela were in a relationship and lost a baby boy named Zenawe Zibuyile Mandela.

Nelson Mandela’s infant great-grandson, Zenawe Zibuyile Mandela died after being born three months prematurely.7de Laan, who was Tsubane’s employer at the time released a statement saying: “It is with great regret that we report the passing of Sekoati and Zoleka’s baby boy in the weekend. Little Zenawe was born three months prematurely and died from related complications.”

The publication also reported in March 2012 that Mandela dumped Tsubane after coming clean about their drug habits.

Mandela’s ex-partner Tsubane is reportedly married today with children and living a clean life.Zoleka Mandela’s list also included Mandla Mandela, Zenani Mandela senior, Zamaswazi Dlamini-Mandela and Zinhle Mandela among others.

Zoleka’s cousin, Ndileka, who is the late Thembekile “Thembi” Mandela’s daughter, and a granddaughter of the struggle stalwarts told The Citizen that she is aware of the list of people circulating on social media.

“There is a list in circulation on Twitter that I can confirm that contains the names of people. That was her (Zoleka’s) dying wish for those people not to attend the funeral.”

Ndileka paid tribute to her cousin, in a video clip shared by the SABC and said she knew her cousin from the time that she was a baby. She (Ndileka) was about 14 years old when Zo was born.

“My relationship with her extends from the time that she was born. We are a close-knit family, so my memory cast back to the times we would spend in Qunu and in jubilant occasions. The one thing that Zo has taught me even as her older cousin is endurance, bridging the odds.”

“Zo fought courageously; she knew the odds were stacked against her but that didn’t discourage her from fighting this terrible news called cancer.”

Mandla Mandela urges respect for Zoleka’s peaceful rest

The Grandson of Nelson Mandela, Mandla Mandela, has called on his family and the public to allow his cousin, Zoleka Mandela to rest in peace.

Mandela released a statement on Friday night, in which he referred to unsavory behaviour at Zoleka’s burial. This follows what appears to be a family feud over where she was to be buried at the Fourways Memorial Park.

Zoleka died at the age of 43 on Monday after succumbing to cancer.

In the statement, Mandla Mandela confirms that his cousin Zoleka’s last rights were marred in controversy.

Mandla was seen leaving the church service just before all the other family members could come out as they were headed to the Fourways Memorial Park, where Zoleka was being laid to rest.

The controversy surfaced following the emergence of a purported list on social media, indicating people Zoleka did not wish to have at her funeral.

Mandla has labeled the timing of the release of that list as unfortunate.

He has called on all family and friends to restore respect and dignity and to let Zoleka rest in peace.

Drama at Zoleka Mandela’s funeral. The person listed in her diary as unwanted causes commotion, brings police and snatches her body

Drama at Zoleka Mandela’s funeral. The person listed in her diary as unwanted causes commotion, brings police and snatches her bodyDrama broke out among the Mandela family after Zoleka’s aunt who is the daughter of Nelson Mandela, Zenani Mandela, delivered a court interdict to the family to have her buried elsewhere and not in the Mandela burial estate.

Zoleka Mandela had planned where she wanted to be buried and her final resting place was secured. She had prepared her family, and children and had a list including and excluding guests.

Immediately after her passing, a hole was dug up by Kupane Burial at the Mandela Estate next to her two late children, her mother, and grandmother Winnie Madikizela-Mandela at Fourways Memorial Park.

The now-divided Mandela family wanted to bury Zoleka next to her family while Zoleka’s aunt, Zenani, came with a court interdict and a police van demanding they bury her in her own space purchased by her ex-husband Thierry Bashala.According to a person present at the funeral, the police came to stop the family from burying Zoleka at the Mandela estate. “There are legal documents that have divided the family. They were forced to move the body from the estate to where the ex-husband had bought the grave. These were orders made by her very own aunt, Zenani.”

The source adds that Zoleka was very clear about where she wanted to be buried. “She wanted to be next to her kids, and not estradeni (in the streets). This is a disgrace! This has brought a serious division in the family. People refused to stay for the rest of the ceremony. Some family members left before she could be buried. There is tension and this now means more legal battles.”The insider claims that Zenani and Zoleka despised each other.

“They know why. Only time will tell. I am not at liberty to disclose that. But the chaos that Zenani brought was irreparable. This could have been done days before instead of causing a scene. Zoleka did not want her at her funeral, and she knows but she came knowingly because she wanted to cause drama.”
