Detective Malinga portrays a law enforcement officer who is dedicated to removing drug traffickers and money launderers off the streets. He has relationship troubles, just like any other South African man, and has never had a stable relationship due to his over-commitment to work..

Onset Malinga is frequently haunted by memories of an estranged ex-girlfriend Tina, who left him owing to his over-commitment to his career and attempted to move on with actress Busisiwe Xaba in Palesa Matema, a relationship that never lasted. Currently, he is on the verge of switching from his detective work to a mundane desk job in order to salvage his relationship with Ayanda Majola, the business director and mother of one, played by Samela Tyelbooi.

On Generations, Detective Malinga “Andile Nebulane” fell into difficulty with law enforcement agents while playing cat and mouse with drug pins and human organ traders Jack Mabaso, Kumkani Phakade. He was detained and tortured in 2018 after being falsely accused of being a drug dealer; he suffered serious cuts as a result of the trauma.

Andile Nebulane is a happily married father of one who enjoys the finer things in life, such as the comforts that come with celebrity and wealth.
