Lasizwe: I Think I Found My Smile Again! Some say it’s too soon…

After just over a week since the passing of his father, Menzi Mcunu, it looks like Lasizwe is able to brave a smile for his social media followers. The YouTuber shared a series of images of himself, captioning it with, “I think I found my smile again! Happiness looks great on me.” A few minutes prior to him flashing his teeth, Lasizwe also tweeted, “Life isn’t a group assignment, it’s you against yourself. It’s okay to say “ I am not ok.””

The social media star has been the subject of online bullying, after he was criticised for inappropriately taking to social media soon after his father had passed away. In response to the tweets shared on Tuesday, 29 September 2020, Tweeps found it hard to believe that he was able to smile so soon after his only living parent had passed on. Many compared their grief to his, and wished that they were able to muster up the strength that he seemingly has.

The YouTube sensation laid his father to rest this Friday, 25 September 2020, after he had passed away on Sunday, 20 September 2020. On the day of his passing Lasizwe was Cape Town with his siblings, which included beloved media personality, Khanyi Mbau. While Khanyi has opted to mourn her father’s passing in private and away from the public eye. Lasizwe from the get has made it clear that he will mourn the loss with a camera lens in hand to make sure that his social media stays having content.

Taking away from the messages of condolences, Lasizwe’s followers were shocked to see him using the passing of his father as way to gain traction on his social media accounts. His posts went as far as to show images of himself crying whilst at the funeral.

Aside from the seemingly inappropriate posts, many dragged Lasizwe for his choice of clothing, accusing him of trying to look fashionable at his father’s funeral. After much backlash, he addressed the outrageous tweets and asked that his followers respect his decision to mourn on social media.
