South African actress Baby Cele’s farewell to Zoleka Mandela left many fans in tears.

Author and activist Zoleka Mandela has died at the age of 43. Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter was fighting metastatic cancer.
A media statement has been released by the family spokesperson, Zwelabo Mandela.
“On Monday, September, 18th, Zoleka Mandela was admitted into hospital for ongoing treatment for metastatic cancer to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.
Recent scans revealed significant disease progression including fibrosis in the lungs as well as several emboli.
Zoleka passed away in the evening of Monday, September, 25th, surrounded by friends and family.

Zoleka lost her life to cancer, but her story would inspire many generations.

The talented writer survived breast cancer twice before she was diagnosed with cancer in her lungs, liver, ribs, spinal cord, brain and hips.

Despite such terrifying news, Zoleka remained vigilant and hopeful until her last day.

The Mandela family made a statement on her death on Tuesday, 26 September 2023.

Sharing on her Instagram, Baby Cele showed how much she found inspiration from Zoleka.

After her post, many celens like Natasha Thahane also had a few words to the late Zolake.

The statement from her family revealed the extent of her condition, stating that she was receiving treatment for metastatic cancer, which had spread to her hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord. Recent scans showed significant disease progression, including lung fibrosis and several emboli.

Zoleka Mandela passed away on the evening of September 25th, surrounded by loved ones. Her family expressed gratitude to the medical team who cared for her during her illness.Throughout her journey with cancer, Zoleka had been candid about her experiences, sharing them on social media. She had even begun planning her own funeral, emphasizing the importance of leaving a legacy for her children.

In December 2021, Zoleka welcomed her sixth child, adding another chapter to her life’s story.

This follows the city council’s approval of the name change in honour of the late struggle icon – Winnie.

The ceremony coincides with what would’ve been her 87th birthday.

“We had a good run. I’m grateful for everything -good and bad. I grew up as the child of The Soil,” Buhle says. I have graced local and international stages and performed at some of the biggest festivals in front of huge audiences here and abroad. I can never replace the time I have had with the group, but it’s time to grow and face this cut throat industry on my own. I know I can do it.”

The two remaining group members, Ntsika and Luphindo Ngxanga, said The Soil is not going to be the same without Buhle dali.
